Carmel Byrne BVSc MRCVS Practice Manager

Qualifying from Bristol in 1988, I worked in Hampshire and Somerset before joining Highcroft in 1993. As well as small animal medicine and surgery I developed my interest in practice management. Due to numerous hand surgeries I had to reduce my clinical work, and focused more on the management of this busy vet practice.  I became a Director of Highcroft in 2017 and my main role now is Practice Manager.

I am proud to have led the clinic to achieve Investors in People accreditation in 2004 as well as RCVS Accreditation, and am the driving force behind the clinic maintaining both standards.

In 2009 I qualified to perform acupuncture in all species and until the recent pandemic, I held regular acupuncture clinics. I am also a Clinical Coach for vet nurse training and In February 2020 I attained The NHS Leadership Academy and Royal College of Veterinary Surgeons Award in Leadership Foundations.

Outside work, I look after Peter, our family and animals, including a Jack Russell, and two cats, one of whom is diabetic. I enjoy swimming, walking and my thrice weekly Pilates sessions. Cooking, baking and gardening fill most of the rest of my time but if I get any time spare, I love to lose myself in a good book or film
